Utah County Flood Maps Open House

State and local officials are conducting a public open house to present recent changes to the flood maps in Utah County. The public is invited and encouraged to attend, view the maps, and discuss the changes.

Officials from FEMA, the Utah Division of Emergency Management (DEM), Utah County, Provo, Orem, and other Utah Lake communities worked together to produce new maps to reflect current flood risk in Utah County. Updates to the maps may affect future building standards and insurance requirements.

These new maps reflect updated flood risk for areas along the Provo River and Utah Lake shoreline. Attendees of the open house will learn how to read and interpret the flood maps and will see any changes to their community.

What: Utah County Flood Maps Open House
Where: Provo Recreation Center, 320 W 500 N Provo
When: Tuesday, August 6, 2024; 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Floodplain boundary changes occurred in the following jurisdictions: American Fork, Genola, Lehi, Lindon, Orem, Provo, Saratoga Springs, Springville, Vineyard, and Utah County unincorporated areas. Goshen, Payson, and Pleasant Grove have changes in panel boundaries only.

Learn more about your flood risk and review new draft flood maps. Flooding is Utah’s most common and costly disaster. Floodplain maps are an important tool that communities use to know which areas have the highest risk of flooding. Maps must be periodically updated as flood hazards are dynamic and change frequently for many reasons, including weather patterns, erosion and community development.

This mapping project is part of a national effort led by FEMA to increase local knowledge of flood risks and support actions to address and reduce the effects of flooding to protect life and property. Residents are encouraged to learn about local flood risks, potential future flood insurance requirements, and to express any concerns or questions about the information provided during the appeal period.
