The Utah Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Forensic Services was pleased to meet with a group of international visitors from several African nations last week. This exchange delegation was hosted by Utah Global Diplomacy whose mission is to promote respect and understanding between the people of Utah and other nations. The purpose of the group’s visit to Utah and other US states was to examine Ending Gender-Based Violence under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. The initiative focuses on sharing best practices for preventing gender-based violence, identifying and prosecuting abuse, and providing victim support.
Laboratory Director Amy Lightfoot and Senior Forensic Scientist Manager Rebekah Kay met with the group to discuss forensic evidence protocols, especially in cases of sexual assault. They also discussed topics such as expert witness testimony in criminal cases and how the lab interacts with law enforcement agencies. The lab was grateful to make these connections with such dedicated individuals and lend support to their efforts to make a difference in their communities.
