On Wednesday, September 4th, at about 2:30 pm, a Trooper stopped a vehicle on Highway 6 near milepost 257 EB. During the stop, the trooper became suspicious that the driver was under the influence. The trooper asked the driver to exit the vehicle to perform SFST, but the driver refused. The trooper called for an additional unit to respond while he continued to try to convince the driver to exit the vehicle. As the trooper did so, the driver fled.
The trooper began pursuing the 39-year-old Fort Duchesne man as he fled in a Dodge Charger. UHP attempted to spike the vehicle but was unsuccessful. The pursuit continued until milepost 271, when the driver lost vehicle control and rolled. The driver was ejected from the car while the vehicle was rolling. Medical personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene. Shortly after medical personnel arrived, they pronounced him deceased.
