On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at about 6:36 pm, an eastbound Jeep Cherokee was traveling on I-70 near milepost 28. The roadway has a gradual right-hand turn in the area. The Jeep ran off the road into the median as the road curved. The driver then overcorrected, and the Jeep ran off the road to the right. The jeep traveled down an embankment and rolled multiple times. Neither of the occupants was wearing a seatbelt, and they were both ejected. A 20-year-old male occupant was pronounced dead on the scene, and a 19-year-old female occupant was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. Fatigue is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash.
