August 30, 2024 – The crash occurred on westbound Interstate 80 near milepost 107 at approximately 11:30 AM. A Mazda 3 experienced a tire blowout, leading to a loss of control and a collision with a dump truck. The crash resulted in the dump truck striking the guardrail and rolling down an embankment, where it subsequently caught fire.
The driver of the dump truck sustained fatal injuries at the scene. The driver of the Mazda, a female 19 years old, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Westbound I-80 was closed for several hours during the investigation.
