At 11:56 a.m. on February 21, a Chevrolet Malibu traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-80 caused a multi-vehicle collision near milepost 104. The Malibu struck an eastbound Dodge Ram 2500 head-on, then drifted along the cable barrier before coming to a rest. A Toyota RAV4 also traveling east subsequently struck the Dodge, causing the truck to overturn and block all eastbound lanes.
The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced deceased at the scene. All other involved occupants were transported to a local hospital in critical condition via Life Flight and ground ambulance.
