On Thursday, July 18, 2024, at approximately 1:37 am, a black 2019 Subaru WRX was traveling southbound on SR-224 in the area of milepost 6 when it left its lane of travel to the right and struck a tree. The WRX became fully engulfed, and the 29-year-old male driver, the sole occupant, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. A witness reported the WRX was racing another vehicle. Local agencies are in the process of tracking down the other vehicle involved. SR-224 was closed in both directions till approximately 6:00 am.
