On Thursday, February 6, 2025, at approximately 6:52 am, a White Ford F-150 was waiting at the stop sign to make a left turn from Parachute Lane onto southbound SR-179. A dark Green 1999 Dodge Caravan was traveling northbound on SR-179 approaching the intersection, proceeding towards I-80. The F-150 proceeded with the left turn in front of the oncoming Caravan, failing to yield right of way. The Caravan collided with the driver side of the F-150. The driver of the Caravan sustained non-life threatening injuries while the driver of the F-150, coded as bravo condition by medical, was transported but later died at the hospital. The intersection was closed during the initial investigation of the collision.
