The Utah Refugee Public Safety Symposium, held on June 25, 2024, at the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office, was a resounding success. We are grateful to the Salt Lake County DA’s office for providing us with an ideal meeting space.
The event brought together a diverse audience, including refugees, refugee service providers, NGOs working in resettlement, distinguished community members, law enforcement officers, mental health professionals, community advocates, and public administrators. These participants gathered to hear from federal, state, and local government leaders and engaged in thought-provoking panel discussions that provided valuable insights into the safety and well-being of refugees in Utah. The symposium created a platform for meaningful dialogue, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose among the attendees.
Opening remarks were shared by Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Jess L. Anderson, United States Attorney’s Office-District of Utah 1st Assistant Felice Viti, and Refugee Services Provider Director Mario Kljajo.
Keynote addresses were given by Salt Lake FBI Field Office Special Agent in Charge Shohini Sinha and Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill.
